OEM LED modules: design and manufacturing with optional BLE or ISM connectivity

An OEM LED module must fit the product’s geometry, power supply and communication requirements. INVENTRONICS designed and manufactured custom LED modules from electronics concept to series production, with optional BLE or ISM connectivity.
The project family at a glance
The family included rectangular, linear, combined and round designs. Power variants comprised CV DC, CC DC and versions powered directly from 230 VAC with an integrated supply. Selected designs could include BLE or ISM for wireless lighting control.
These are separate design variants selected for the application, not switchable power modes on one universal board. The common feature was electronics design based on the customer’s concept, combined with manufacturing at INVENTRONICS.
| Project fact | Confirmed scope |
|---|---|
| Product family | Custom LED modules for OEM customers rather than one universal module. |
| Geometry | Rectangular, linear, combined and round designs. |
| Power variants | Separate CV DC, CC DC and 230 VAC designs with an integrated power supply. |
| Communication | Optional BLE or ISM integration for wireless lighting control. |
| Manufacturing and inspection | Electronics design, SMT/THT assembly and AOI optical assembly inspection. |
Key outcome: INVENTRONICS combined design and manufacturing for a multi-variant family of LED modules tailored to OEM product concepts.
The OEM customers’ challenge
Manufacturers needed a partner able to develop and manufacture non-standard LED modules. Different shapes and power arrangements called for application-specific designs, connecting electronics decisions with their implementation in production.
Where a concept called for radio-based lighting control, optional communication had to be considered alongside electronics and power. The cooperation therefore extended beyond PCB assembly.
Tailoring a module to the customer’s product also considered thermal requirements, expected optical performance and dimensional constraints. These parameters served as design inputs for the individual variant.
Design decisions and variants
Engineering covered customer-specific electronics, power supply design and optional communication integration:
| Area | Variants in the family | Relevance to the design |
|---|---|---|
| Geometry | Rectangular, linear, combined structures and round | Matching the design to the OEM product concept. |
| Constant-voltage supply | CV DC | A module designed for a constant-voltage supply. |
| Constant-current supply | CC DC | A module designed for a constant-current supply. |
| Mains supply | 230 VAC with an integrated power supply | A design intended for direct mains power. |
| Communication | Optional BLE or ISM | Connectivity integration for wireless lighting control. |
BLE stands for Bluetooth Low Energy. ISM refers to radio frequency bands; the term alone specifies neither a particular frequency nor a protocol. Requirements for range, network topology and integration with other devices are established for the individual project.
INVENTRONICS’ scope of work
INVENTRONICS combined design and manufacturing activities:
- Engineering services and electronics design based on customer requirements and concepts.
- Design of CV DC, CC DC or direct 230 VAC variants with an integrated supply for the mains-powered versions.
- Integration of BLE or ISM communication where included in the module concept.
- Electronics manufacturing using surface-mount SMT and through-hole THT assembly.
- Automated optical inspection, AOI, for assembly inspection.
Combining design and manufacturing allowed each module to be considered in terms of both OEM product functions and series production.
Assembly inspection using AOI
Production included AOI, automated optical inspection of electronics assembly using images. It assesses board assembly separately from lighting parameters and finished-product operation.
For a new project, it is worth defining whether photometric measurements, functional or electrical tests are required and which criteria apply. This matches the verification plan to the module’s application.
Results: manufacturing across multiple variants
The outcome was a family of custom OEM LED modules in different geometries, DC variants and mains-powered designs, with optional wireless connectivity. INVENTRONICS combined electronics development with SMT/THT manufacturing and AOI assembly inspection, covering module development and series production.
OEM value and questions for a new project
One partner for design and production can simplify coordination of geometry, power and communication in the context of both product functions and manufacturing.
For a new project, it is worth preparing answers to a few questions:
- What space, geometry and mounting arrangement does the product allow?
- Is the required variant CV DC, CC DC or a 230 VAC design?
- Is wireless communication necessary, and what must the module communicate with?
- Which thermal and environmental conditions need to be considered?
- Which lighting parameters, acceptance tests and safety requirements need agreement?
- How far has the concept progressed, and what quantities and delivery dates are expected?
These answers establish the engineering and manufacturing scope. A mounting-space drawing and expected-function description provide a useful starting point for selecting the module variant.

FAQ
Yes. In this project family, INVENTRONICS combined electronics design based on customer concepts with series production. The scope included power supply solutions, optional communication integration and electronics manufacturing using SMT/THT with AOI assembly inspection.
Start with the power arrangement intended for the OEM product. The family included CV DC, CC DC and 230 VAC designs with an integrated supply for the mains-powered versions. Module selection and connection should follow the variant’s specification; a DC board must not be connected to mains voltage.
The family included rectangular modules, linear modules, combined structures and round modules. For a new project, sharing the available space and mounting arrangement helps frame a discussion of geometry alongside power supply and any communication requirements.
When the product concept requires wireless lighting control. BLE or ISM was optional for selected designs. For a new project, it is useful to identify the devices the module should communicate with, along with expectations for range and communication arrangements.
Assembly inspection, operational testing and finished-product requirements should be agreed separately. AOI provides optical inspection of electronics assembly. The scope of additional tests, safety requirements and conformity assessment should be defined for the particular application.
